Company

D. J. Wilson Garden Design is a Knoxville-based landscape company committed to excellence in horticulture, design and resource conservation. Since 1993, we’ve completed a wide range of projects for churches, schools, businesses, and homeowners in east Tennessee and western North Carolina.  Many of our clients have become friends and repeat customers, remarking that their gardens have been ongoing sources of learning, relaxation, and self-expression.

Designer

D. J. (Doris J.) Wilson is a landscape designer and free-lance writer with over thirty years of gardening experience. Her work has been deeply influenced by the botanically - rich environment of her hometown, Asheville, North Carolina, where she developed an early appreciation of nature and environmental stewardship.

After a career in social work and non-profit management – most recently as director of the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation in Tennessee, D.J. began studies in horticulture and landscape design at the University of Tennessee, turning a lifelong avocation into a profession. She established her business - D.J. Wilson Garden Design - in 1993 after completing a landscape design internship, overseeing design projects for a specialty nursery, and working for U.T. on research projects in ornamental horticulture and plant pathology.

D. J. has taught adult education classes about design, noteworthy plants, and conservation landscaping, and has been a speaker for nursery and plant grower conferences, master garden groups, and garden clubs.  She has been a writer and project designer for HGTV and keeps an online journal about nature, gardens, and life in southern Appalachia .
